Key Duct Fittings and Their Functions in Ventilation Systems

In modern architecture, ventilation duct systems play a pivotal role. To ensure the efficient operation of these systems, various specialized duct fittings are employed. Here are six commonly used duct fittings and their primary functions:

 

  1. Flange Plate: This is a crucial connecting component used to link ducts with other fittings or to extend them. Not only does it enhance the stability of the duct, but it also comes in two shapes: rectangular and circular.
  2. Valves: Within the ventilation system, valves serve to control the airflow, assisting in initiating the wind sail, shutting down ducts, and vents. Common types of valves include the louver valve and butterfly valve.
  3. Flexible Short Tube: To reduce noise caused by fan vibrations, flexible short tubes are installed at the fan’s inlet and outlet. These tubes are typically made of canvas, acid-resistant rubber, or polyvinyl chloride plastic cloth.
  4. Elbow: When there’s a need to change the direction of the ventilation duct, the elbow comes into play. It can be either circular or rectangular, depending on the requirement.
  5. T-joint: This is a key component for branching or merging airflows and can be either circular or rectangular.
  6. Return Bend: Ideal for bypassing other pipes or architectural components, the return bend is an excellent choice. It also offers both circular and rectangular options.

Understanding these essential duct fittings can aid in better designing and maintaining ventilation systems, ensuring their long-term and efficient operation.
